Environmental

Ferrox & Tivani are fully compliant to their, rehabilitation and environment commitments from mining activities. 

Currently a bond for the amount of R5 million have been posted for the Mine Rehabilitation Plan. This rehabilitation bond will periodically topped up based upon the mining activity. The Company intends to top-up to R30 million at the earliest. 

Following are mine rehabilitation objectives: 

  1. To establish a post-mining land use that will sustain rural agricultural activities and development once mining activities have concluded. 

  2. To ensure a sustainable, functional ecosystem post-mining.
    Appropriate biodiversity monitoring will be implemented to determine both
    pre- and post-mining conditions of the ecosystems associated with the mining and surrounding areas. 

  3. To identify and implement a sustainable post-closure decant management system to prevent the contamination of sensitive water resources.

Objective for livelihood retention: 

To equip employees with portable skills that can be utilised in other sectors
post-mining. One of the objectives of multi-skilling workers is to increase the opportunity for alternative employment either in a different occupation on the mine
or in a job outside the mining sector.

Building Local Communities

Ferrox & Tivani are also bound by the commitments made to the DMRE under
the Social & Labour Plan. Some of implementation projects are as follows:
 

Human Resource Development Program

Ferrox & Tivani contributes to the local community via the Adult Basic Education & Training Program (“ABET”), 18 candidates were identified for 2022/2023. The candidates are offered yearly internal & external internships for skills development. 

Drill Borehole(s) provided to local villages

Tivani, with Greater Letaba Local Municipality committed to drill borehole(s) for community water supply serving 5 neighbouring villages. 

Water Tanks provided to local villages 

Ferrox & Tivani provided 4 solar water pumps, one 1 for each of the 4 villages of Nkuna Traditional Council. We also provided 4 - 20,000-liter water tanks to each village for the storage of clean drinking water. 

Community Centre Refurbishment 

Development & Refurbishment Nkuna Traditional Council Community Centre: The community centre was opened by His Majesty Hosi Muhlava II. This community centre serves as a place for the community to gather & for ceremonies including funerals and other events. 

Sewing Machines Provided

The community centre provides skills of knitting and sowing to females of the communities. A total of twenty-eight (28) sewing machines of commercial grade (Juke) were donated to the community under this project. The sewing commenced on March 1st, 2022.

Education Materials

Tivani provided the financing for the procurement of textbooks for the community’s school children for their education and empowerment.
